My Coaching Beliefs
Your golf swing is not even close to your biggest problem
You shouldn't have to get worse before you get better
Golfers will have more fun learning course management systems and learning to practice and play properly instead of making a swing change. Learning to play your game to its fullest extent is much more fun than trying to play like somebody else.
Golfers struggle to diagnose their biggest issues. We watch the worlds greatest play on TV and compare ourselves to that model of golf. This causes golfers to develop unrealistic expectations of their own game.
A teacher must see their golfers play golf to have an understanding of their game.
After watching 1000's of rounds of golf played by golfers of handicap ranges 0-40, the only common trend is that golfers lack any level of consistency in their decision making, strategy, routine, emotion, and have very little awareness of the short game skill required to shoot better scores.
99% of students ask for swing lessons only and 99% of teaching professionals know there are so many things they could work on to improve the golfers scores faster. Less than 10% of teaching professionals will voice that honest answer to the student.
Hitting the ball 10-15 yards further won't change your score at all if your 100 yards and in game remains the same.
Distance is an unbelievably important variable to shooting low scores. But the golfers we watch on TV hitting those distances have personal trainers they see every day with golf expertise. They have personal chefs, massage therapists, chiropractors, a swing coach and a mental coach. Some are also blessed with flexibility and strength. Amateur golfers don't realize how much work goes into hitting the ball further. However, keeping it in play more often with an improved short game would do wonders for your game and is much more realistic.
You can drive the ball 200 yards and shoot even par on a 6400 yard golf course with the right skillsets.
Distance is not the most important characteristic that would improve the scoring abilities of weekend golfers. Short game is and always will be.
